How Does Laser Tattoo Removal Work?
Tattoos are large ink particles that are stored in the superficial layers of the skin. Tattoo ink remains in the skin because ink particles are too large for the immune system clear. Lasers use the principle(s) of selective thermolysis to target ink in the dermis causing it to shatter into smaller fragments. These smaller fragments can then be removed via the bodys natural immune response.
How Long Do I Have to Wait Between Sessions?
Each tattoo removal procedure should be performed every 6-8 weeks. This provides adequate timing for ink to be cleared by the body’s natural physiological processes and skin to heal.
Will My Skin Return to Normal?
Yes! Skin returns to normal in almost every patient. A lightening of the skin (hypo-pigmentation) may occur but is usually transient and will resolve itself in the following months after your treatments are complete.
Will my Tattoo be Completely Removed?
For most tattoos, Yes! We use the most advanced Q-switched laser technology available for multi-colour spectrum tattoo removal; almost every tattoo will be completely removed. In rare circumstances where poor quality inks were used, injected by unqualified tattoo artists using incapable machinery or multiple layers were applied, tattoo removal may prove difficult and may require other treatments.
Does Tattoo Removal Hurt?
A little bit – getting a tattoo removed may be uncomfortable for some. However, our Sydney Tattoo Removal experts make your treatment as comfortable as possible by using the Zimmer Cooling System. This state of the art technology cools air to temperatures below -30 degrees Celsius. We are able to cool your skin before, during, and after the laser energy is directed to the target site without interfering with the laser beam. Topical anaesthetic creams available at any pharmacy can be applied 30 minutes to an hour before your treatment to further assist with pain management. Laser energy is very powerful and hits the pigment at nanosecond time intervals. The fragmentation of the ink is comparable to grease splattering off a frying pan and hitting your skin.
